Aubrey Drake Graham was born in Canada to African-American musician Dennis Graham and his mother Sandra Graham, a Jewish teacher. You can learn a great deal about running a business with someone like Drake.  Drake offers several examples for aspiring entrepreneurs. Like many contemporary hip-hop stars, Drake goes far beyond music in his quest to achieve success in business pursuits. Besides being a famous rapper, Drake is also an entrepreneur who should be studied by every aspiring entrepreneur. Part of his business pursuits include a successful clothing line, long-term partnership with Toronto Raptors, and various collaborative deals. What makes him stand out is attributed to the following.

Good Mentorship

Mentors are an important part of the personal and professional development of entrepreneurship. These are clues when people need someone who can guide them in the right direction. Just like Drake in his quest to make more green, he’s always been around great businessman like former Young Money boss Lil Wayne. Good mentors are enthusiastic people who appreciate the role they play in helping others achieve their goals. As an entrepreneur when considering a mentor, A well-connected mentor can direct you in the right direction for startup funds, initial capital, operating capital, and offer you a wider network of contacts. Also, a mentor can help you develop ideas in a practical way beyond what your experience currently permits. Drake rolls with a business-minded clique, so being around  top-notch business-minded people is necessary.

Collaborate to develop your brand

The business collaborative is the process of aligning your interests, resources, and marketing of your business in general with other compatible companies to achieve more than you can do on your own. Just like Kanye West collaborated with Jordanian mother brand Nike. Drake also has his own line of sportswear partnership with Nike dubbed “OVO” that was named after Drake’s birth month, (which means an October Very Own). Drake is a commercial umbrella. His pursuits include various activities like commercial promotion, artist shows, radio shows, festivals, and a remarkably successful clothing line.  A good entrepreneur must have a collaborative spirit. Some of Drake’s collaborative business ventures are Virginia Black Whiskey, a collaboration between Brent Hawking and Drake, OVO sportswear with Jordan and Nike.

Building a strong brand by identifying your target audience.

In short, defining your target audience means identifying the specific characteristics of people or companies that you think will most likely buy your product or service. Drake didn’t invest in oil or gas instead he invested in his clothing line and other things that can expand his brand, name, and music career which makes it a more reasonable business idea.  As an entrepreneur, when thinking of starting a business make sure you go with a business you are passionate about. Every successful brand has a powerful purpose behind it.
