How The Kardashian Family Built A Business Empire. EntrepreneurByNature.com

Everyone is familiar with the Kardashian family. This family is comprised of Kris Jenner who is the mother, Kourtney Kardashian, Kimberly Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, Robert Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner who are the children. This family is one of the wealthiest families in the entire globe and therefore one would ask how this came to be. There are various lessons we can learn from the Kardashian when it comes to wealth creation and how they built their empire. They include;

  1. Embracing New Platforms Early
This is a lesson drawn from Kim Kardashian who has 103 million instagram followers; in addition to this she has 56.3 million followers on twitter. She is known to have adapted to social media at an early age to engage with people. She has an amazing way of talking to fans while simultaneously promoting her brand by requesting fans to send her Kimojis on twitter, revealing her make up routine on instagram and advertising her app so that fans can subscribe to it. Her social media skills have helped her connect with fans which has helped her advance her business. Her success has come from connecting with her fans; it is therefore evident that if you go directly to your audience you are able to build a successful empire.
  2. Engaging Your Fans To Sell Your Product
This is a principle applied by Kylie Jenner who is the youngest of the Kardashian clan. She has built her make up line known as Kylie Cosmetics to a 500 million dollar empire in 18 months by engaging her fans to help her sell the product. She is the youngest celebrity to be listed in the Forbes 30 under 30 list, she stated that she does not pay advertising companies to market her products but connects with fans through snap chat, instagram and twitter to help her sell her products, social media is what has turned her make up line to a multi-million dollar empire.
  3. Considering Everything As Business
Kris Jenner who is the matriarch of the Kardashian-Jenner clan considers everything as a business venture. She has made her family prominent by turning all their family scandals into opportunities for wealth creation. For example she came up with a reality TV show known as Keeping up with the Kardashians about her family’s day to day life which has made them earn a lot of money. Kris Jenner is also visionary when it comes to spotting business opportunities for her family. Being visionary has helped her build her business empire.
  4. Challenging The Industry
This is applied by Khloe Kardashian. She spotted a market need that had not been seen by anyone. She launched Good American which is a denim line that runs from size 0 to 24; these sizes are commonly left out by other denim line brands. She has also considered plus size women who have also been left out by other brands. This is a smart move because it has helped the society to accept people’s physical differences aside from creating wealth for herself.
  5. Turning Negativity Into Opportunity
Before Kim Kardashian was known for Keeping up with the Kardashians she had an explicit video that ruined her image since the video spread across the internet. As much as the issue was controversial she used this attention as an opportunity to launch the reality show thus boosting her and the rest of her family to fame. This means that the Kardashian clan would never let any crisis be their downfall; instead they use these opportunities to grow their careers and build their empires.
  6. Knowing Your Audience
The Kardashians tend to understand the mind-set of their audience and would do whatever it takes to appeal their fans. For example Kim Kardashian has a portfolio of products centered on glam, beauty and luxury. She also has two successful mobile apps which are Kim Kardashian West and Kim Kardashian Hollywood which are tailor made to meet different segments of her fans thus appealing a wide range of people. Understanding your audience is the key to positioning your brand in the best possible way.
  7. Diversity
All the Kardashian members have ventured in other business opportunities aside from reality TV shows. They have created clothing lines, dieting products, shoes, fragrances, make up products, accessories, mobile games and applications all carrying the Kardashian brand. The variety of products has allowed them to grow their brand and make a name for themselves in the market.
  8. Authenticity
One thing about the Kardashian clan is that they really do not care what people think about them, they completely own who they are and are unapologetic about it. This kind of attitude attracts the people who help them grow and repel those who have no value for them. Brand building is basically about attracting the right people and repelling the wrong people. The best thing one can do when building their brand is to be authentic by being themselves and not pretending to be anything they are not.
  9. Showing Up Consistently
The Kardashian family has always shown up to their fans consistently since 2007, whether it’s through giving fans a sneak peek of their life in social media, their insanely popular reality TV show or media endorsements; this family has never failed to show up to their fans. Showing up consistently builds trust with your fans in that it shows that you are here to stay and they should keep you in their mind. Such a presence makes it possible to build a successful brand.

The Kardashians still continue to fascinate the world as they continue to grow everyday despite their challenges or criticisms. The points above illustrate how the Kardashians have managed to build a sustainable brand and successful empire in a competitive world.

What Entrepreneurs Can Learn From Jay-Z

What Entrepreneurs Can Learn From Jay-Z. Entrepreneur By Nature

When it comes to the music recording business, it is well known that musicians can rise to fame and lose all the money they have earned pretty fast. However, it seems that Jay-Z did not get this memo. His entrepreneurial vision and spirit have made him have an estimated net worth of $800 million over the years. How did he get there? Also, what can entrepreneurs learn from his successes? We will look at that below.

You Should Master The Art Of Hustling.

One of the things Jay-Z has been quoted saying is that without the work, there will not be any magic. He credits his success to having a soul of a hustler. Jay-Z is a go-getter, he would lock himself in a room with his friend Jaz for hours to work on his rapping technique and not losing his sight on his dream of being a rapper. It is through this that he became one of the greatest rappers of all time. He works hard on his crafts and his businesses. He was inspired by his mother’s hard work who raised four children single-handedly. Therefore, it is vital to know how to hustle if you are in business since you will not be successful overnight.

Help Yourself First.

People will only help you if you help yourself first. If they see that you are pursuing your goal relentlessly, then they will be more willing to help you out. Jay-Z’s mother, after seeing him play some tunes on the kitchen table, bought him a boom box as a birthday present. This would not have been the case if he had been silent and not practising even when he did not have any instruments. It is, therefore, necessary to show passion in what drives you and stick on that path; you will find people willing to help you to achieve your goals.

Experience Is Key.

You do not need the education to make it in the business world, experience, on the other hand, is vital. Jay-Z founded companies that are worth more than $100 million and has also been Budweiser Select’s co-brand director. These experiences made him a top entrepreneur and a businessman. It should be noted that despite all these successes, he did not attend any business school. He learnt all the skills from the streets that he was in. Through that, he discovered how to manage and promote a business from scratch. He also knew how to makes sales from these streets which were vital for his role as an entrepreneur. It is therefore seen that experience knocks open more doors for you as an entrepreneur than education so one should ensure that they gain all the relevant knowledge they need in their line of work.

Take Rejections Positively.

You are bound to face many rejections before you make it in any business. Jay-Z tried to get deals from many labels but was rejected. That did not, however, make him lose hope. He dusted himself up and founded his label, Roc-A-Fella Records and later, a second one, Roc Nation. Iceberg Apparel had also offered him an endorsement that was paying him a small amount of money yet he boosted their sales to a large extent. He instead founded his clothing line and sold it after ten years grossing about $200 million. Isn’t that a success? Jay-Z did not let rejections deter his spirit. He bounced back and shone brightly. As an entrepreneur, you can either make these rejections destroy you or rise and turn them around to be successful. The ball is in your court.

Be A Trend Setter.

In 2009, auto-tune was the biggest trend in the United States. Jay-Z, however, decided not to follow this popular trend and carve out his path. He later introduced his style in a hit single that was called, ”Death Of Auto-Tune”. It was a style that defined him as a person, and he believed in himself enough to do it. From this, we can learn that it is more vital to follow what you are passionate about than just following the trends in society.

Jay-Z is a success, in business and his music. All of these can be accredited to his vision, discipline and also taking risks. He continues to inspire the business world and also be a challenge to us. We should incorporate some of his moves as seen above to succeed as entrepreneurs.

Keys To Building a Business Empire: How Pierre Thomas and Kevin Lee Built Quality Control into a Music Empire

Keys To Building a Business Empire: How Pierre Thomas and Kevin Lee Built Quality Control into a Music Empire. Entrepreneur By Nature

The music industry, like many other professions, is competitive, secretive and requires a lot of hard work. It’s easy to reap the benefits of any business accomplishment but what are the keys to staying motivated and what does it really take to persevere? In an interview with Quality Control creators, Pierre Thomas and Kevin Lee, talk about what really happened in the development of their empire. In this tell all, they shared the high lights and low lights. Through it all, many things contributed to their success but a few of the main themes from their own mouths are as follows:

  1. Staying determined

Recognize that everyone is not your friend in the industry. The reality of the situation is business is business and everyone wants to be on top. However, everyone can’t be number 1 so naturally the shadiness within the business presents itself. Others will try to use you till you can’t be used anymore and it’s certainly enough to break your spirit. Quality Control’s Pierre Thomas shares in an interview that this is indeed the case. He says “I was getting ready to quit the music business. I had been doing it a few years with my prior partners and I had got frustrated with the business: trying to get on, investing a lot of money and dealing with the wrong people. Just finding out that the music business is a real shady business.” He went further to explain “People don’t want to share certain information. They just want to keep using you [for your money] and keep you at a certain level.” Even though this realization was devastating for Pee and appeared to be the end of the road for him, it ended up being the push he needed to invest in his own label, which is now known as Quality Control.

2. Staying fluid

In this entertainment field especially, it is vital to their success to be able to stay fresh and updated. Being able to submerge yourself into the world and observe the happenings to stay on the up and up about what’s in and what’s not will define your adaptability or fluidity. In any type of business, flexibility and the ability to grow are essential to what is known as a business plan. Most people make a business plan before begining a business and think that refinement should be kept to a minimum. To the contrary, business plan reconstruction is sometimes a must to see advancement in the business. It’s okay to realize that your original plan might not work out the way you wanted it to. Realize that this is normal in businesses across the board. Pee’s partner, Kevin, also known as Coach K, says “As the music was transitioning and getting younger, I might go out and hang on the hipster scene. Just to vibe and see what’s going on and I started noticing all this movement in that world.” It’s no secret that this guys are from a different era so the music today is definitely something that they had to adjust to. That really shows how much they had adapt to in order to capitalize. They realize that the younger scene is the market that they want to target and they tailor their service to the target market that they want to serve. Or at least where they wanted to start their market which leads me to the next theme.

3. Expanding your marketing dynamisms

This simply means to not be afraid of stepping outside the box. Don’t let society dictate the choices that you make for your business. It is yours after all. Pee says “We gone stay small…We gone take over the world.” Later it was further clarified that he means that the success that they have can only be maintained by keeping the business circle small while expanding their marketing efforts. Lil Yachty pointed out “It’s not too much [places] you can go without hearing or seeing one of us. You can see Quavo on ESPN now throwing a football. We everywhere, all three plus me.” Lil Yachty is right. Without even noticing it, they slowly have been seeping into all aspects of life. Lil Yachty was just seen in a sprite commercial and in stores he is about to come out with his own fragrance. “I’m finna’ be right there by the deodorant.” he says. They are dominating the industry and expanding their markets by expanding their goals. Coach K says, “When you get to a point where you become complacent, that’s where you fall. So, we are always striving. And it’s very competitive in house. We all family but it’s very competitive.” Offset says “We got real loyalty and love.” They’ve made it and Takeoff says that he wants the group and the label to achieve “longevity”, a feature all business owners want for their business.
